Wow Grandpa, this is an amazing playlist! I went on YouTube and searched all these songs, and not so surprisingly they all remind me of Dad. My favourite song on this list is “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton. While Dad was alive I was a devout Atheist. Even for a little over a year after he died, I was. But this was the song that changed my mind for the better. It graciously summed up every emotion that I felt for his loss. When the words “Will it be the same, if I saw you in heaven? I must be strong, and carry on.” ran across Eric Clapton’s lips, I knew Dad was safe. I knew that Dad was looking down upon me, from a place of joy, smiling. I used to think that Dad was part of the Black Cloud that hovered over New York City, which people could not help but to inhale that day. From this, he was now he was in the midst of New York City’s lungs. But that is not my Dad. Thank you for posting this song, Grandpa, and reminiscing what is really important, memories.
At bed time, he would crawl into my bed and we read from the New York Times. Sometimes he would whistle “I am the Walrus” by the Beatles. When Dad was a live I did not know how to whistle. Now I am trying to learn so I can walk down his streets of New York City, and whistle this tune in remembrance of him.
Here is a video clip I found of Eric Clapton singing “Tears in Heaven” at Madison Square Garden in New York City, on YouTube.
